Box Butte Health Foundation Programs
Jane’s Closet is an outreach program that provides financial assistance and comfort bags to cancer patients and their families. Funds are available for expenses such as gas, transportation, and meals. You can contact the Health Foundation office at 308-761-3079 or Mary Goodell at 308-761-3423 and either would be happy to assist you.
As of December 2023, the lifetime amount of funds received is $190,412.
Funds given to individuals in the community amount to $131,673, and a total of 335 individuals have been helped.
Educational Scholarship Program
Each year, the Box Butte Health Foundation awards five $2,000 scholarships to college students within our service area pursuing a degree in a healthcare field (clinical, financial, business). Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic status and be enrolled full-time. The mission of this program is to “grow our own” workforce by investing in our youth’s education and encouraging future employment at Box Butte General Hospital. Of previous scholarship recipients, 25% work at BBGH. Applications open on February 1st every year.
Pay It Forward (Employee Payroll Deduction Program)
“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.”
The Pay it Forward program generates donations from employees to fund projects, equipment, or Jane's Closet to promote a healthier environment for our employees and patrons. Employees are encouraged to give a minimum of $1.00 per pay period ($26 per year, 10 cents per day) to the program. In 2023, 203 employees participated and contributed a total of $21,213.
Gifts of Agricultural Commodities
The Agricultural Commodities program encourages area farmers and ranchers to save significant tax savings by contributing commodities such as corn or cattle to the Box Butte Health Foundation instead of making a cash contribution after selling commodities. When an agricultural producer transfers legal ownership of a commodity to the Box Butte Health Foundation, the producer does not realize taxable income from the sale but is still able to deduct the entire cost of the production of the commodity.
Every year since 2018 BBHF, its committee, and volunteers have hosted a Golf Classic to raise money for the Box Butte Health Foundation. Since it's conception, the Golf Classic has raised a total of $141,828. In 2023 the event raised $32,903. Funds from this event have purchased:
- Recumbent stepper for The Wellness Center
- ID hour machine for the Laboratory
- Bladder scanner for the Emergency Department
- Hearing booth for GNMSS
- 3 patient room recliners for the Patient Care Unit
